Purpose
This document describes the procedure for updating the firmware of NST cameras/devices through NST’s official management channels, including the NST Desktop app and the NST website platform https://nstgroup.vn/
Scope
Applies to cameras and NST hardware devices that support firmware updates through NST’s management platform.
Firmware updates apply in the following cases:
New feature updates.
Device stability improvements.
Software/firmware bug fixes.
Security patch updates.
Compatibility updates for the NST management platform.
3. Principles for secure firmware updates
To ensure the security of devices and the system, NST only permits firmware updates through the following official management channels:
The NST Desktop platform at https://nstgroup.vn/
NST does not provide any mechanism for loading firmware directly through a public API/SDK for end users or third-party systems. Restricting the update channels is intended to ensure the following:
Firmware is obtained from NST’s official release source.
Devices only receive updates appropriate to the corresponding model and version.
The update process is controlled through accounts, access permissions and the device management platform.
The risk of devices being loaded with invalid firmware, the wrong firmware version or firmware of unknown origin is limited.
The status of devices before and after an update can be traced.
4. Conditions before updating
Before updating the firmware, the user/operator needs to check the following conditions:
The device has been added to the correct location/management account in NST Connect.
The device is online or has a stable connection to the NST Connect system.
The device’s power supply is stable throughout the update.
The network connection is stable, keeping loss of connection during the update to a minimum.
The person carrying out the update has administrator rights or device configuration rights.
The firmware version to be installed is a version released by NST for the correct device model.
Do not power off, restart or disconnect the device from the network during the firmware update.
5. Firmware update instructions
The update procedure via the mobile application is as follows:
- Open NST Desktop.
- Log in with an account that has device management rights.
- Select the location under which the device to be updated is managed.
- Go to the Devices (“Thiết bị”) section.
- Select the camera/device whose firmware is to be checked or updated.
- Open the Device information (“Thông tin thiết bị”) section.
- Check the device’s current firmware version.
- If the system reports that a new firmware version is available, select “Update to new firmware” (“Cập nhật firmware mới”).
- Confirm by selecting “Update” (“Cập nhật”).
- Wait for the device to download and install the firmware.
- When the update is complete, check the device’s online status again.
- Check the firmware version again after the update.
- Check the main functions, such as livestream, events, recognition, alerts or related operational functions.
6. Post-update checks
After updating the firmware, the user/operator needs to check the following:
- The device is online as normal.
- The firmware version displayed matches the version installed.
- The device still belongs to the correct location/management account.
- Livestream works normally.
- Playback works normally, if supported by the device/system.
- Events/alerts are recorded normally.
- AI functions such as facial recognition, licence plate recognition, person/vehicle detection or event alerts work normally, if supported by the device.
- No firmware error, connection error or configuration error warnings occur.
7. Handling an unsuccessful update
If the firmware update is unsuccessful, the user/operator should take the following steps:
- Do not power off the device immediately if it is still in the process of updating.
- Check the device’s network connection status.
- Check the power supply to the device.
- Wait for the device to restart and reconnect to the system.
- Check the device status in the NST Desktop app.
- Perform the update again if the system still shows a firmware version that needs to be updated.
- If the device does not come back online or cannot be updated again, contact NST’s technical support department to have the issue resolved.
8. Firmware updates for security patches
For security patches, NST will announce or publish appropriate information on the firmware version recommended for updating. The content may include:
- Affected products or models.
- Affected firmware versions.
- Severity of the vulnerability.
- Fixed firmware version.
- Update recommendations.
- Temporary mitigation measures, if any.
- Update instructions via NST Connect Mobile.
- Users/partners are advised to update to the latest firmware version released by NST to ensure secure and stable operation of the device.
