TP-8000 Camera Administrator Password Recovery

Procedure for recovering the administrator password using a challenge code and a digitally signed unlock code, without requiring the camera to be connected to the Internet.

1. Applicability

This guide applies when the administrator has forgotten the administrator password but needs to retain the existing data and configuration. Recovery is only carried out after NST has verified valid ownership of, or valid administrative rights over, the device.

The device supports an offline recovery mechanism using a challenge code and a digitally signed unlock code. This mechanism does not require the camera to be connected to the Internet.

2. Performing the recovery

  1. Access the TP-8000 login page on the local network and select Forgot password (“Quên mật khẩu”).
  2. Write down the challenge code displayed on the device. Do not alter the code.
  3. Send a request to NST’s official support channel, together with the challenge code and the information NST needs to verify ownership or administrative rights.
  4. After verification, NST issues an unlock code or a recovery signature file for that specific challenge code.
  5. Enter the unlock code or select the signature file on the recovery page; set and confirm a new administrator password in accordance with the device’s password policy.
  6. Log in again with the new password and store the password in accordance with internal security rules.

3. Security notes

  • The unlock code can only be used with the corresponding challenge code and is valid for one successful recovery only. Do not share the challenge code or the unlock code publicly.
  • If an incorrect code is entered multiple times, the recovery function may be temporarily locked. Wait until the lockout period has expired before trying again.
  • Do not send the old password, the new password or images containing sensitive information via public channels.
  • If the device does not yet have a public key for recovery, this function is unavailable. In that case, use the physical reset button as instructed by NST; resetting may erase the configuration and operational data on the device.

4. After recovery

  1. Re-check the administrator account, network configuration and essential operation.
  2. Review the relevant logs and change the integration credentials if they are suspected of having been exposed.
  3. Record the time of recovery and the person who performed it in the operational records of the organisation managing the device.
