Overview
Secure Phones and Tablets
Three layers of protection
Ordinary commercial phones protect data at the application layer. For classified information this is not enough — protection is required at all three layers simultaneously:
- Communications layer — end-to-end AES-256 encryption; content can only be decrypted at the two endpoints
- Operating system layer — a dedicated operating system, with control over all source code running on the device
- Hardware layer — a security chip holds the keys and resists covert reading through physical tampering
Eavesdropping detection
Beyond protecting the device itself, the phone also scans the surrounding radio environment to detect eavesdropping devices planted in the room — useful before meetings on sensitive matters.
