Overview

NST-Z5-8M 8MP Fixed IP Camera

Role in the system

NST-Z5-8M is a fixed IP camera for security use, whose function is to observe and provide accurate images to external surveillance and AI analytics systems. The camera supports dual H.265/H.264 video streams and MicroSD card storage of up to 512GB, and features a built-in microphone and PoE power supply.

Integration with surveillance systems is via RTSP, ONVIF (Profile S / G / T) and API.

Day and night observation

The motorised 2.7–13.5mm lens adjusts its focal length by motor, narrowing the horizontal field of view from 113° at wide angle to 31.4° at narrow angle. The corresponding DORI distances at the two ends of the focal range are:

  • Detection — 84.1 m at wide angle, 285.4 m at narrow angle
  • Observation — 33.7 m at wide angle, 114.2 m at narrow angle
  • Recognition — 16.8 m at wide angle, 57.1 m at narrow angle
  • Identification — 8.4 m at wide angle, 28.5 m at narrow angle

Two white-light LEDs, one on each side of the lens, provide automatic supplementary lighting with a 50 m range. The sensor achieves a sensitivity of 0.006 Lux in colour mode (F1.6, AGC ON) and 0 Lux with the lights on. For backlit and foggy scenes, the camera uses 120dB WDR, backlight compensation (BLC), highlight compensation (HLC) and digital defog.

Reference configuration for night-time licence plates

For clearer images of licence plates at night, the user manual recommends:

  • Exposure — shutter priority mode, exposure time 1/1000
  • Backlight — anti-glare mode, level 81

For even clearer plates, the exposure time can be reduced to 1/2000 or shorter, at the cost of a darker image. When a brighter overall image is needed to observe the scene, switch to automatic exposure mode.

Installation and connection

The connection ports are located inside the camera compartment: LAN/PoE port, Micro SD card slot, 12V DC power, Audio in, Audio out and the Reset button. Cables exit through a waterproof cap.

  • Power — via PoE, or from a 12V DC supply when PoE is not used
  • Finding the IP address — scan for IP addresses on the LAN and match them against the MAC address printed on the camera label
  • Adding to the system — configure the camera directly via its IP address on the local network, or add it by QR code or serial number if the project uses a centralised management platform. Set a strong password as soon as prompted on the first connection

Factory reset: press and hold the Reset button inside the compartment continuously for 15 seconds, and do not disconnect power while holding the button or while the camera restarts.

Device security

Each camera has its own private key — which does not leave the camera, is not written to any log and cannot be read out through any API — together with a certificate signed by the manufacturer’s Device CA. The server authenticates the device through the certificate chain, and the connection between the camera and the server is encrypted.

There is no shared default password, and network interfaces are protected against password guessing. Access is protected by complex passwords, HTTPS / TLS, 802.1X authentication, IP address filtering and control timeout. Firmware updates must pass digital signature and integrity checks; unused ports, services and debug interfaces are disabled in commercial builds; user data is erased upon factory reset or decommissioning of the device.

If you discover a security vulnerability in the device, please report it to NST’s vulnerability reporting centre.

Regulatory references

Compared against QCVN 05:2024/BCA — 8MP@20fps and 6MP / 5MP / 4MP / 1080P @25–30fps resolution, support for H.264/H.265, ONVIF Profile G/S/T, and IP66 and IK08 outdoor protection.

For cybersecurity, the design follows QCVN 11:2026/BCA: unique passwords and secrets set by the user, protection against password guessing, secure firmware updates with signature and integrity checks, protection of personal data in transit, automatic recovery after network or power loss, and the ability to configure data storage in Vietnam or on-premise.
