Overview

NST-TP-8000 AI PTZ Camera

How it differs from a fixed camera

A fixed bullet camera can only see in the direction in which it was installed. PTZ solves a different problem: a single unit covers both a wide area and distant points. With ≈42.8x optical zoom, the same camera can both observe an entire square and zoom in to read the licence plate of a vehicle at the far end of the street.

The trade-off is that PTZ requires more careful configuration: preset positions and the dwell time at each preset must be set in advance, because zone-based AI analytics only run reliably when the camera is stationary or pauses long enough during the patrol cycle.

Dual-mode illumination

TP-8000 integrates a supplementary illumination module for night-time operation and situations that require colour images:

  • 850nm infrared, 200 m range — long-range observation in low light, black-and-white images
  • White light, 80–100 m range — when colour images are needed to record clothing colour and the colour and body style of vehicles

Effective range depends on illuminator power, beam angle, zoom level, shutter speed, target reflectivity and weather — a site survey is needed before the acceptance configuration is finalised.

Edge AI capabilities

TP-8000 performs AI tasks directly on the device, generating events, snapshots, video and metadata before transmitting them to the central site:

  • Person recognition — detection of people and faces, classification by hair colour, gender, age group and clothing colour; extraction of re-identification features (Person Re-ID)
  • Vehicle recognition — licence plate, type, body style, colour, direction of travel and re-identification features (Vehicle Re-ID)
  • Area protection — restricted-zone intrusion, virtual fence crossing, prolonged stopping or parking, encroachment, informal street markets, illegal dumping
  • Behaviour and events — gathering, fleeing, falls, fighting, pushing and shoving, weapons
  • Fire and objects — smoke, flames, abandoned or moved objects

Alerts for people and vehicles on a watchlist are issued directly on the device.

Deployment models

  1. Camera + on-site centre (on-premise) — video, events and metadata are sent to servers located at the operator’s premises, with centralised PTZ control. Suited to government agencies and critical sites.
  2. Camera + cloud platform — remote device management, PTZ control, events and configuration. Suited to systems distributed across multiple locations or requiring rapid deployment.
  3. Camera + existing VMS — provides video streams, snapshots, metadata, PTZ control and APIs to the video management system or command centre already in use.

Device security

Each camera is a distinct entity with its own identity: its private key is generated on the device during manufacturing and does not leave the camera, is not written to any log and cannot be read out through any API. The certificate is signed by NST’s Device CA, and servers authenticate the camera through the certificate chain.

There is no shared default password, network interfaces are protected against password guessing, firmware updates must pass digital signature verification, debug ports are disabled in commercial builds, and user data is completely erased upon factory reset or decommissioning of the device.

Regulatory references

Compared against QCVN 05:2024/BCA — 8MP against a minimum of 4MP, a 128GB NVMe SSD against a minimum of 32GB of edge storage, support for H.264/H.265, ONVIF Profile G/S/T, IP67 and IK10, and automatic transmission of data to the central site when the connection is restored.

For cybersecurity, the design follows QCVN 11:2026/BCA: a unique password for each device, secure firmware updates, protection of sensitive parameters and personal data in transit, automatic recovery after power or network loss, and the ability to configure data storage in Vietnam.

Firmware and security support

The current firmware version for NST-TP-8000 is nvxp-1.0.0.33.20260903.bin (released 26 August 2026). See the firmware lookup table or the update guide.

NST declares a period of at least 5 years of technical support, warranty and software updates, including cybersecurity patches where necessary, for the NST-TP-8000 device, counted from the date on which NST announces the end of commercial production of this product line.

If you discover a security vulnerability in the device, please report it to NST’s vulnerability reporting centre.

Operating documentation

Site survey needed before finalising the configuration

  • Viewing distance, zoom range and illumination range to be used
  • Mounting height and angle, pan/tilt area and the presets to be configured
  • Density of people and vehicles, speed of movement, degree of occlusion
  • Size of faces, bodies, vehicles and licence plates at each zoom level or preset
  • Lighting conditions: daytime, night-time, backlight, rain and fog
  • Number of AI models running concurrently, dwell time at each preset and acceptance criteria
  • Edge storage requirements, bandwidth to the central site and VMS integration approach

Limits of applicability. NST does not guarantee absolute 100% accuracy for face recognition, licence plate recognition, person and vehicle attributes or behaviour detection under all field conditions. Results are subject to acceptance against the agreed scenarios, sample data, installation position, zoom level or preset, environmental conditions and problem scope.

Note on rolling shutter. The sensor uses a rolling shutter, so preset positions, shutter speed, zoom level, viewing angle and lighting need to be configured in a suitable combination to limit motion blur. Do not use flash/strobe lighting as the default configuration.
